How to use a Meta ?
I'm working through a systematic update of my TT and searching for threads on the procedure, I seem to have pieced together a basic procedure from formatting the SD card to getting (not using yet) activate_2019. Have sourced the maps and the Meta strings.
Although putting the maps on the card Seems straight-forward I cannot figure out what to do with the Meta strings that are published, I have copied two strings into separate .txt files.
Do I : 1. copy these text files into the map folder on the device, 2. copy these files to the root folder of the device, 3. Copy these files into a new folder on the device called Metas, or do something else with them.
What do I need to name the files? so far they are Meta1.txt and Meta2.txt.
A lot of the information on doing these basic procedures is in quite old posts which simply refer to "Just add the meta" or refer to links that are long gone to the big database in the sky and I don't mean the 'Cloud'.
Something that seems and sounds quite simple to the initiated can be quite puzzling for the un-initiated. alright, so I'm thick, I'm trying to learn.comuscomp Reviewed by comuscomp on . Meta codes are posted up for members reference only
You need to download FastActivate which will have already have the meta codes built into it...providing the map you've downloaded has a matching meta code, FA will activate it
Download FA from the following link and read the instructions provided:

sorry, I will explain a little more, I have a locked-down system which is constantly monitoring threats, the link you gave me, downloaded a file that Windows 10 Windows Defender immediately deleted as containing a Trojan:Win32/Zpevdo.B. so rather than just hitting the keyboard in a rant, I decided to follow the thread (which started 2 years ago), to the end and found an up-to-date post that led to activator_2019, assuming this to be the latest incarnation, because it says 2019. this however still threw up a Trojan warning which I posted to the thread and was assured it was a false positive, It is now sat in the TomTom Update folder still zipped. I shall unzip it sometime today in a sandbox, Just to be safe and hopefully there will be some form of instructions in how to use it.
As I pointed out in the original post, to the initiated, things are always simple and straight-forward. I found a problem at the first hurdle and decided to try and find a solution before reposting another question, But all the same, I Thank you for sparing me the time to reply and trying to help, I have now learnt something about the Meta strings that I didn't know before and can move forward with that knowledge.
Now lets hope the Activator_2019 is simple to use, or at least comes with simple instructions, who knows, one day I may be one of the initiated.

Actually, it is very simple...you download a map that meets your needs and already has a matching meta code, then you use one of the activators available here to activate the map and patch the navcore.
FastActivate has been used by us for many years so we know it's safe but it might show up as a false positive on your system...as might the other activators. It's your choice whether to use them or not but the only other alternative is to buy the map direct from TomTom.

I have downloaded the maps that I want(Hopefully), I have also downloaded the metas(which I apparently don't need), I have sandboxed Activator2019 with no apparent problems.
The process of melding these actions into a process, to me, is far from simple. As you say you have been doing this for many years, so yes, to you it probably is simple, you say "use one of the activators available here to activate the map and patch the navcore." I have absolutely no idea how to do that, I am trying to learn and it has not been easy piecing together a coherent procedure to achieve this.
Activator2019 does not contain any help files that I can find to explain the use of the program so I have asked the author if they have any. we can hope.
I will persevere, a new sd card should arrive tomorrow so I can start from scratch.

The irony is the link I gave you in the first place has all of the instructions you need with a link to download FastActivate as well...and that's the third time I've said it
You keep saying it's not easy but you won't follow advice and insist in making it a lot more difficult than it needs to beLast edited by fredderf; 10th June 2019 at 09:53 PM.
