Accessing Root Of Device
Hi folks,
I'm trying to add a map to my TomTom, however I appear to have fallen at the very first hurdle.
My TomTom is a START40 and the internal memory is almost full so I've bought an SD card.
I have had the SD card in the TomTom and formatted it for maps. However, when I put the SD card from the TomTom into my card reader it shows as full. When I show hidden files there are several TomTom files which I'm guessing are just occupying the space?
I have also tried to connect the TomTom to the PC with the memory card in it and this shows up but I'm not able to do anything with this either for files.
Could someone point me in the right direction please or give me some pointers?...markc Reviewed by markc on . I'm so sorry for you, but it's totaly impossible to update this device yourself
You've to use Mydrive due to this device must have a lifetime update
I do not know for sure, but mydrive will probably give you a report on a shortage of storage space and what to do further.

If you bought it new you must have that information how to get these llifetime updates
I'm also not sure if these Start 40 devices are alreade in the list End Of Life
Otherwise you need to pay for any new maps
Goodluck anyway

If your device has a serial number that starts with VK, VL, VM, VN, VS, VT or VY, you have a Start 40 with a NAV4 system.
Those devices can only be updated with MyDriveConnect and official bought maps. So updating is only possible by buying a official map by TomTom.
If the serial starts with GT, GU ot GY than your have a NAV2 system, of which thw first two are decleared End of Life (EoL).
Those can be updateded by your self. But i doubt that you have such a one, becourse those have not SD card slot and they were sold in America.
If you want to know more details about TT-devices, look at
greetings
