Does simba's patched navcore activate live traffic services at all or is it just to enable "free" maps.

If your device has given you traffic information so far, it will continue to give you,
the last one is 10,855,
if it is for Australia choose 10,855 TMC Australia,
the best way to find out; save your original SD, use a new SD and do the whole new process from the 1st post,
if you don't like how it works, go back to your original SD,
regards

Has your 10.855 been updated, then? I am sure I had to patch mine to get TMC (RDS) in the UK.

I'm pretty certain that is the navcore I had to patch to get TMC UK working, but I can't check any more as it looks like I've deleted my copy. I could, of course be wrong and I only patched 10.854 but I can't remember that far back.

I've been using Simba's patched core for some years now, and have never seen any live traffic info on the NB1. (I'm in NSW, AU.) And how could it? To the best of my knowledge, the NB1 has no 'external data' hardware.

Well, my NB1 has "live services". I've been trying to get information on how exactly they work to no avail. I presume it's TMC as it can be received from the car's radio antenna.

Live services come in by two routes, TMC and Cellphone data. It looks like you normally get neither unless you have a subscription with TomTom. However, if your navcore is patched, you can receive TMC without a subscription. This is a bit frustrating as TMC is free-to-air (in the UK), but TT insist on a subscription.

Aye, since the NB1 has no wifi or mobile data it must be TMC. It does look like the app simply refuses to enable it unless you purchase a "license". Which is only valid for a year smh.

I think that purchasing a licence also enables mobile data for the really good traffic info. TMC, by comparison, is rubbish - slow to respond to changes, only certain roads are covered and roads are divided into big sections. A licence enabled both TMC and the high def services at the same time, but TMC is enabled without purchasing a licence if you have a suitably patched navcore.
