If I manage to go into safe mode, when I try to run adb root (very slow) at the end I get this message ...
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a valid ext2/ext3/ext4
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2/ext3/ext4
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
or
e2fsck -b 32768 <device>
Done !
Adb and root shell is now enabled on your device.
Reboot the device in normal mode

if instead I try to perform the recovery partition it sends me this:
Drives now connected :
/dev/sda = Crucial_CT525MX300SSD1
/dev/sdb = ST3500418AS
/dev/sdc = ST3500418AS
/dev/sdd = TomTom GO USB Device
=> New drive detected /dev/sdd = TomTom GO USB Device
WARNING : This will re-write the recovery image to device /dev/sdd3. Are you sure ? (y/n)?y
Ok, let's do it !
dd: failed to open '/dev/sdd3': Read-only file system
End !
If it does not work, try the following with device working in normal condition
adb connect 169.254.255.1:5555
adb push recovery_partition.bin /tmp
adb shell
dd if=/tmp/recovery_partition.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
(or mmcblk1p3 if a sdcard is inserted)

@yjoliva, one thing you have to do is try to turn off the Windows antivirus completely, because I too have had these problems, it seems strange but it is not.

important is backup of this device?
do NOT use a copy of another
if you use an ubuntu example, look on records or write terminal; sudo fdisk -l and check if sees 2 partitions, one less than 128KB, other approx. 8 or 16 GB
if you see these 2 partitions with app discos, create a copy of this particon and with an exadecimal editor opens it and check if you see your device number
comment and continue.

maybe I already did it a bad thing... someone suggest me to use a backup of another same device
I did it but after restoring that backup, and power on, my nav shows only backlight without tomtom logo or drums sound.
It stall and reboot only with backlight on and off.
I tried to insert magic sd and use nav4free to installing root and it done!
It is recognised by pc only inserting magic sd and using nav4free
I cannot go in normally recovery mode to use MDC or I cannot normally start tomtom..
I cannot go in recovery mode with pushing 3 power on button method..
I never use linux (sorry.....) , I work on win7.
But if you tell me how to try to recover my tomtom, and wich software, I will try at the best I can..
Thank you so much

by putting a copy of another device, you have broken yours, to have the option of recovering it is essential to have a copy of your device, at least the 128KB partition.
