Sorry to revive an old thread but I have been playing with my recently acquired Go 950 - a lovely device - which does not come with an RDS-TMC integrated dock. I live in New Zealand and I was wondering if it is worth it to buy a receiver for the 950? They are over 35 bucks on eBay and that is quite a lot - more than what I grabbed the GPS for!
So again, my question - do you think the RDS-TMC antenna would be anywhere near the sort of traffic data Google Maps provides? Is it worth spending the money on? And what are my alternatives here? Mine is NOT the 'LIVE' version. Just good old Go 950.
Thanks, guys :-)You're beautiful. Yes - you reading this! :-)

not sure about the 950 exactly, I've always had 730 lives, but I do know the traffic is NO where as good as Google maps, it just gives you issues ahead on your route, if you can even get an FM radio signal that covers the area you need. I've migrated myself now to the Garmin HD traffic which covers much more area without FM only dependence, and give you much quicker and more reliable updates. That all said, the RDS-TMS is still ALOT better than nothing while traveling.

Thanks 'notdeadyet'. That is helpful information. I am wondering in NZ has a robust RDS system at all concerning traffic warnings. I looked up and no station apparently talks about traffic on RDS. Could I just be wasting money buying an antenna here in NZ? Thanks!
Also - here is a picture of a TomTOM RDS-TMC antenna that I can pick up rather cheap here but this came with a TomTom One T and I am not sure if it will work with my device. The TT One has a mini usb jack but the receiver seems to be a different jack probably. I was unable to identify what sort of a jack it is from the picture!

I'm in North America, so can't help you with NZ stations much. The picture is of the original traffic attachment device, and the one I had only lasted the 1 year's subscription built into it. I now have a power cord with Traffic built into that provides traffic to mine,
but I believe that may be a "LIVE" feature and may not work with yours. You'll need to research whether this will work with a 930. Good Luck!!!

I think my RDS-TMC receiver was one of my best buys ever.
It has got me out of and around so many traffic jams here in the UK.
Going coast to coast it normally worked 98% of the time.
After getting a car with a heated front windscreen it only worked 25% of the time until I connected it to an external aerial, now it works 99% of the time.
Apologies if this information is of no use in New Zealand.

I think everyone uses RDS-TMC from SUNA here in NZ,personally even in Auckland having Traffic info does not help like in North America or Europe as the road infrastructure doesn't allow for multiply alternative routes.
Check out this

Ah that is very reassuring. But can I request you to take a look at the wikipedia link I posted in my previous post? New Zealand might be quite different from the UK with no radio station carrying traffic data! I hope I am wrong but can you help? Thanks!

Ah thanks so much for this. This is the sort of info I was looking for and I am grateful to you for this help. So with this in mind (not enough alternate routes) would you suggest me getting the receiver at all? Cheers! You're beautiful. Yes - you reading this! :-)
