Tomtom 720 not picking up any satellites and black and yellow wheel not spinning problem
Hi,
I found my parents old tomtom 720 while sorting through some bits for them. There was no SD card in it and nothing on the internal drive but I have used tomtom home to put the latest navcore on it (9.451 I think) and then patch it and put a UK map on it but it doesnt pick up any satellites and the little wheel on the satellite screen (yellow and black to the top right) goes not spin which I think means it isnt searching?? Is this the Sirl problem?
Also, it will boot up to the map and be ok for maybe 2 mins and then restarts. Is this part of the same problem as above or a different issue?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. If it is relevant, it probably hasnt been used for 4 years or more.

Did you stand outsite while trying to catch satelites?
And is the battery not completely dead after 4 years?

Yes I have tried it outside and no the battery is not completely dead. Charged up and works fine under its own power except for the rebooting which I mentioned. When I stood outside didnt find anything and the wheel was not spinning (do you know the one I mean). does that spin when it picks up some signals or when it is searching (should that spin even when it is inside?)

Unfortunately when the wheel is not spinning it usually means its not even trying to find a satellite. I don't think the WNRO problem will help as even with the WNRO problem the wheel still spins but just doesn't find any satellites.
I think the restarting problem is a separate issue and usually means there is a problem with the hard drive of the Tomtom.
