Help! TomTom START 40 [NAV 4] is not recognized by the computer connected by data cable
Hello! Someone who has encountered this problem before may know a solution. I bought a used TomTom start 40 and I have the following problem. I can't connect it to TomTom My Drive, my computer doesn't see it when I connect it to usb. I mention that I use an original cable, the computer is fine, I even tried on two computers but I still don't see the same problem when I connect them to the USB. It only charges when I connect it to the usb. I tried all the ways, I put it in several ways to connect to the computer. I opened it, I checked the gps' usb plug. Everything is okay. I disconnected it from the battery and tried the same without any result. Help is welcome. Thank you

The USB port is probably defective. I have two 5-inch TomTom devices that have the same problem. The fact that it charges does not mean that the USB port is good. The port has 4 contacts, two for charging and two for data. Try another cable! If it still does not work, it means that the USB port is defective.

The USB port was checked, I disassembled the gps and checked for continuity at the pins leading to the gps motherboard. Is everything alright. The data cable is fine and is the original TomTom. I'm thinking it's a bad motherboard.

Have you successfully connected other nav4 devices to your PC?
If the answer is yes...
Close all programs even from the toolbar next to the clock.
With the gps off, connect the cable.
Press the ignition until you hear the tomtom drums.
If you do not hear the usb connection to your pc over the middle of the device's loading bar, your usb connection is deficient.

Yes I have successfully connected other devices. I did exactly as you say and no sign of connection. So the gps motherboard is possibly defective.
