Nav 2 Tomtom where address can be spoken
Hi looking for some help.
A friend has asked if you can get one of the older Nav 2 Tomtoms where the option to speak the address and manually type it in is available. I couldn't help but said i would try and find out. What are the requirements to speak the address you want to drive to. ie is it the Map / the Nav or is it the age of the Tomtom. I've seen the option on the newer Nav 3 Tomtoms.
Any help would be appreciated.livvy Reviewed by livvy on . Nav 2 Tomtom where address can be spoken Hi looking for some help. The first condition is, of course, that the device has a microphone available
But you must have thought of that yourself, I suppose

Device must have microphone
Go x20, x30 devices have a dialog address
Go x40, x50 devices have voice commands.
You can emulate a x20, x30 to x40, x50 from the switchfiles although I don't recommend it.
In addition to having a device like the ones mentioned, you must have a navcore that contains a complete asr folder and a map of the green ones of the high-level-u type, these are recommended for the devices mentioned.
There are devices like the toyota nav2 gps that use blue maps of the arm9-mnt type, these maps also have cspeech files that allow voice commands
The voice command function in nav2 works very badly, it's maddening, I don't use it.

I did think of that but on reading your reply made me google "Tomtoms with an internal microphone" and found this.
"Automatic Speech Recognition allows you to speak the city, street name and house number instead of entering the information via the touch screen. This requires your device to have a built-in microphone and to be using a computer voice.
The devices that can use this feature are:
GO 950 / GO 750 / GO 550
GO 940 / GO 740 / GO 540
GO 930 / GO 730 / GO 630 / GO 530
GO 920 / GO 720 / GO 520"
So it looks like these are the only Nav 2 TT's that this can operate on. Unless anybody has this on their TT and it isn't listed here.
Thanks for your input.

Yes, that's what I was saying, only that my list is summarized ...
GO 950 / GO 750 / GO 550 = x50
GO 940 / GO 740 / GO 540 = x40
GO 930 / GO 730 / GO 630 / GO 530 = x30
GO 920 / GO 720 / GO 520 = x20

Yep sorry, I must have been drafting my reply when you had already replied. At least we have agreed. lol
Based on your comment about it working badly I think I'll tell them not to bother.
