New here, looking for the best car GPS for motorcycle
Hi there. I'd like to know from the Pros here, to your knowledge what would be the best car GPS for motorcycle?
I'm in Canada.
I know Garmin make the Zumo and Tomtom makes the Rider series for motorcycle, but they are quite pricey. I ride a cruising tourer and I never ride in the rain, so the fact of being waterproof is not relevant. I've used to have the Garmin 1490lmt for my bike and it is quite clear, even in direct sunlight. I even bought 2 of them, but both them did not last. After a while they keep re-booting themselves.
I have a Garmin 57lm which is quite bright, but I have the European map on it and don't want to risk loosing it because I go to Europe every second year.
So before opening my wallet for a Zumo or a Rider, I'd like to know what would be, to your knowledge, the brightest car GPS in the 5" format.

If you REALLY don't need waterproofing as the Riders are AND want the flexibility of utilising "free" maps from here, then I would suggest you try to find a used x50 (550/750/950) x40 (540/740/940) or an x30 or x20 as all these will have very similar brightness to the Riders and can take up to 32Gb SD cards for numerous maps AND can be used with our maps BUT, anything newer or later cannot be cracked to take "free" maps.
You will need to check out the wiring configuration for your bike as all the car devices use a standard cig lighter socket with/without a 5v usb connector but maybe someone else here can help re the wiring?

Go x50 is the newest
Go x40 is an older model
Go x30 is even older
Go x20 is even older again
Go 5x0 has 1GB internal storage
Go 7x0 has 2GB internal storage
Go 9x0 has 4GB internal storage
As Dave said, they all take SD cards, so ignore the size of the internal drive and use an SD card instead so you'll never have any problems with storage
The conclusion is, any Go x50 would be the preferred optionLast edited by fredderf; 16th May 2019 at 07:29 PM.

what are your opinions on newer models such as NAV3, NAV4 & NAV5 devices? some have lifetime maps, traffic ... for speedcams, it depends. yet it seems the more recent it is, the less you can customize it.

NONE of these can be hacked/cracked/pirated but if you're happy with relying on MyDrive (and nowadays WiFi connectivity too) then find a cheap deal/discount but remember that lifetime is only for as long as TT deem it worth keeping alive and some NAV3's are already End-of-Life'd

You definitely convinced me .... when you look at the terms of what means LIFETIME for TOMTOM.... it's a very tricky. You think lifetime as forever.... Tomtom thinks LIFETIME as of LIFETIME of the product.
Really tricky!

You can use a TomTom Go 720 and put the Rider navcore on a SD card. Works great. You can link your GSM and a scala headset to it.

Thnx, does anyone know something for 2024 maps?
