Had same problems with my V3s ,needs a reset or regular quickgpsfix updates otherwise picking up the sats is very hit and miss. Mine can work fine for a while including a few normal restarts then suddenly refuses to lock onto any for ages.

If i do a reset and start again, the satellites are in a very short time there and also the position. The problem is when I am driving, sometimes after a while, the position gets lost and the car is off the road.
Its also curios, when I make a reset and put the system behind the window at home, it reads the satellites after a short time and it has a full level of the signal. When I take the system afterwards and move it to the opposite side of the flat, I have the same conditions but the system has to find new satellites and this time I can leave the system in the same place and it will not read the position anymore and the level is somewhere half as before. Its indifferent on which side of the flat I reset the system. First time after reset it will find the position and on the other side it will not find the new position anymore and the signal level is half as before.

Basically you must a have direct view to the satellite for the best reception.
If you enter a building or a flat or any other house that consists entirely or partly of concrete, you enter the Faraday cage, so shielded inside by the reinforcing bar.
In the Faraday cage it is impossible to receive radio electromagnetic signals, see there is part of your problem.
As for cars, the windows at home can also be provided with a kind of shield

You are right about the cage of Faraday but why I have always a signal with my phone inside my house and not with my TomTom G 5100?

I understand, but the windows are of the same kind and as I wrote before, it doesn't matter on which side I start the system and where I move afterwards. First I have a full level and afterwards something less than half.

... and no fix.

However, does anyone know a solution for TomTom One 3rd edition with GL1 chip?
Thanks

In theory you are not really in Faraday's cage.
In some hospitals, for example, they have a special room for certain examinations and tests on the patient who is a real Faraday cage. often a completely separate room within the building.
One frequency penetrates better than another.
Not to mention how sensitive your receiver is
It is more or less also dependent on the field strength, the radiation angle of the antennas used with GSM.
Because not everyone works with his mobile phone vertically, they have found a solution to divide the antennas into groups at an angle of 45 degrees.
Coincidentally, I or better we are now just in an area where I am probably at the back of the antenna park of my provider because I see little or no signal here sometimes.

As far as I know there is no solution other than I use, update short before you're going to use your equipment, updates with QuickGPSFix.exe your ephem folder
P.S.
Regarding your other question why here and there not.
That has everything to do with how you receive the signal.
Horizontal, vertical or at an angle, thereby also creating reflections through which signals can change position.
In the radio amateur world, of which I am also a part, there are specialists who practice Moon Bouncing and therefore use the Moon as a kind of mirror to make contact with someone else in a directly inaccessible place on Earth at that moment.
However, some power is needed for that.
But in principle it is true that when the antennas can see each other you need virtually no power.
That is more or less true for a satellite, although you are bothered by buildings in the city and otherwise bothered by trees that can also reasonably shield.Last edited by pe1agp; 2nd February 2020 at 08:56 PM.
