All Europe maps with Metacodes too big for TomTom XL, what now?
Hey there!
So after almost 4 hours of tinkering around and jumping into this whole TomTom Hacking stuff as a newbie I finally managed to upgrade Navcore on my XL to 9.510 and being ready for new map updates.
Well, so I thought... I realized that this thing only comes with ~1GB of internal memory and no external way of upgrading that (no SD slot or anything else). And all the maps I would need, such as Eastern/Central Europe that have Metacodes available) are above 1.5GB currently.
So what do I do now? How can I reduce the size of those maps if at all? I saw that there are some Europe maps that are under 1GB but those lack Metacodes so they can't be activated, what can I do with those then?
Thanks for helping a newbieStef18 Reviewed by Stef18 on . All Europe maps with Metacodes too big for TomTom XL, what now? Hey there! Go for a second hand GO with an SD slot, these 1GB devices are more or less useless now
Only good for some small maps like benelux for example

Only problem is that this XL belongs to my mum who refused to give it up due to an emotional bond to it... It once belonged to a now passed away family member and she got it from him, now she doesn't want to switch

That is a completely different problem.
There is a definite model where it is possible to build in extra memory yourself,
but that requires some knowledge of soldering on very small parts.
That is a special model, but I am sure that I mean Rusigor one
Another model of a compact flash card has provided, ask him through a PM
Where is the navigator most used, there may be some parts
omitted such as the poi file, I myself also have a One with
only 1GB of memory that can still turn two maps, but that
she, as I wrote before, was small, benelux and, for example, the UK

The only ways are to either find a smaller map that covers those countries you MUST have, delete all cspeech files from the map folder (as you don't need/can't use them anyway), remove all but one voice file, or, drastically, get your soldering iron out and see here
PS you may just find something usable here:- and/or here
PPS remember, irrespective of your navcore, there's no advantage in getting a (larger) map with cspeech/ASR which requires a device with a mic which the XL doesn't have as it just takes up more memory/space
PPPS we get (direct from the backdoor of the TT servers) and publish links for, ALL the maps but metacodes (which are required to activate a map) can ONLY be obtained/generated/shared by someone who's actually bought that particular map which is why the difference in map counts.
PPPPS how about

Not sure why I missed that one yesterday... I guess after 4 hours of tinkering around I was just too tired to think straight anymore
Thanks! I'll try that one! Btw. do you know what the difference between the "DACH" and "DE_AT_CH" version is?

I think it must be possible to use DE_AT_CH 1015-9104 which Biggerdave suggested at the same time with Italia 1015_9104
When you remove all cpeech files DE_AT_CH is in size 484MB, while Italia is in size 331MB

Good news. NOW do a full Windows backup of the memory!
