START 25 - No Maps Found :-[
Hello everyone :-)
I know I have been inactive on the forum ever since I got my hands on the GO510 which has been working flawlessly. But the TT bug keeps biting me :-)
I bought a 'no maps found' Start 25 off TradeMe (the Kiwi version of eBay) hoping that it must be having at least a corrupted map that I can fix and give the device away to someone. But when I plug this in, My Drive Connect says that it has no maps at all. I know for a fact that NAV4 devices do not have maps tied to an account - rather to the device. Is it different for NAV3? Why does this have no map at all? Even an outdated one? The device won't go past the - no maps found screen.
Is there a fix for this at all or have I spent $16 on a dud?
Thanks so much, everyone. Appreciate your help :-)happened Reviewed by happened on . I think he has one of these BK/BL/BQ (NAV3) devices. Otherwise MyDrive don't accept it. But if a BK (Start 25, 2GB + micro-SDHC), then EOL. No good conditions for new maps from TT...

Suggest you first of all start here - - maybe some malfunction of NC causes MDC to report "no maps" at all for device. It looks very strange, as all NAV3 goes with at least 1 map tied to device. Even if it is EOL - I think last bought/tied map to device must be available for downloading through MDC.
Well, you have another NAV3 with several maps? Or just one?. If you have there old, not upgradeable map there - moreover, if it is already on one of SD - you can try to check it up:
1 - keep safe your SD with this map, don't use it.
2 - if the map also in internal memory - try to delete it from there via MDC.
3 - what now will MDC show you? Will this map still be able to upload via MDC? Or it's "gone forever"?
On the other hand - how it can be possible, to lose all maps?
Seems to me - I'd face such an issue many years ago - while upgrading map on VIA-120 to "1-time-upgrade guarantee" - something illegal was performed during upgrade. as a result - the old map was already terminated, whilst new one - was not uploaded yet. And I also saw (in device) "no maps installed". And MDC reported - almost no free room left in internal. After several attempts to update device - it suddenly deleted all unnecessary files from internal, and started uploading it's latest legit map successfully...

Thanks, everyone for chipping in. I wonder why I did not receive the email notifications of your helpful messages - I subscribed to this thread via the 'instant notification via email' checkbox. Strange.
Thanks, @pe1agp and @Alfred_ML: This device is a BL. So definitely Nav3 and well detected by MDC. It is just that the MDC shows no map tied to the device at all - not even an EOL map. Which is odd.
@rusigor: Thank you for your detailed instructions. I will try them out tonight and report progress. :-)
Thanks to this great community, my fun with TomTom continues :-) Cheers to all of you lovely and helpful people :-)You're beautiful. Yes - you reading this! :-)

I tried this just a few moments go and the device was reset completely. After this, MDC advised me that I have a navcore update pending which I promptly completed but still no maps :-(
I do not have another NAV3 device but do have a NAV4 (Go510). Both do not have an SD card (everything stored on the internal memory) but I do have spare SD cards that I can use. Again, the MDC shows no map on the device and no map download available. Almost the entire internal memory is empty minus the one voice that is installed. MDC says my device is up to date and prompts me to buy a map for $85!!!
Help, please? You're beautiful. Yes - you reading this! :-)

All Start 25 and others in this range do not have maps for life. Only devices purchased from a certain date will benefit.
Moreover, they are referenced as Start 25 M
Look on the packaging box, you should have this:
If no, you will need to buy the map of your choice.

Thanks, but I am not asking for the latest map - I am only asking for the map that it came with! :-) NZ is a small country and our roads dont change very often. I have sent them an email. Will update you guys on what they have to say. I still cant understand how the map the device came with is not available tow download via MDC.

I'm assuming you would still need a username & password to log in to MDC then surely it "should" show you what map is registered to that device & allow you to re-download/reinstall it UNLESS the previous owner managed to convince TT that for some reason, broken/stolen etc, the map was transferred to a new/replacement device by the previous owner?
PS good luck with the email as they rarely bother to respond but, fingers crossed.
