re: Cracking the non-Live Carminat
Hi!
My cousin bought a 2012 Renault Megane that has Carminat TomTom...
It has DE_AT_CH map installed but he wanted to install Iberia (or Western Europe)... Does anyone have this MCT to share?
I can provide DE_AT_CH-204.meta.mct if anyone needs it...
Thanks in advance...

re: Cracking the non-Live Carminat
Strange, but nobody seems to try it.
I can assure you: volume ID (4E0D-F1F7 or any else) has nothing common with SerialCardNumber, to which *.mct file being generated. And moreover - you can change this number in any way (change it manually, or you can format SD card - volume ID will be changed automatically), but SerialCardNumber will leave the same - hence, after doing this you can return original content on SD (with *.mct of course) and make sure that the key is working in-spite of volume ID changing back and forth.
Consequently - if we won't learn how to change SerialCardNumber (ex: 1b534d3030303030102f7e37fb00acdf) to one mentioned in file ttgo.bif of Carminat - nobody can use *mct file from another SD-card

re: Cracking the non-Live Carminat
Why a copied . mct activated sd-card is not working in your Carminat device.
Start study the datasheet of a sd-card and you will find out that there are
6 registers located on the sd-card in a protected area.
One register is the CID = Card identification register (128-bit)
Page 18:
The referred register area is about 1% in size of the sd-card and is filled with data during
the last check and formatting on the 'factory floor'.
Untill today all vendors of sd-cards have not made public how to reach and change this data.
Even a bit to bit image is missing this data !!
The CID contains specific vendor information o.a.
MDT: Manufacturing date (12-bit, Month, Year)
and other 5 unique fabrication data.
For navigation sd-cards, most important is the:
PSN = Product Serial Number (32-bit, Uniquely assigned integer)
Here an example:
Raw CID Bytes: 94-00-73-A2-7D-7D-10-30-30-30-30-30-4D-53-1B-00
Product Serial Number: 7d7da273 = 2105385587 (10 digit in decimal)
TomTom, but also Garmin use this number to make a sd-card unique.
The navigation software reads and checks this number in combination with the device unique ID
TomTom writes this number, encrypted, as the SDcardSerial in the ttgo.bif file
for TomTom's Carminat devices.
For this reason, the unique PSN=Product Serial Number, you can copy a TomTom supplied Carminat sd-card
without error notification, on another sd-card.
But the copied sd-card will never work on your Carminat, due to the 'genuine' missing PSN-number
CID read programms you can find with Google:
ReadCID.zip This a 'read CID only' program.
The ReadCID.exe application will only work if the memory card reader is attached
directly to the PCI bus of your laptop. No USB type of memory card reader will have the capability to
access the CID parameters through the USB API.
Another PSN reader for WinCE or Windows Mobile devices:
Card_ID.exe

re: Cracking the non-Live Carminat
From (and credit to) downunder:
For everyone still running the 9.844 or that simply want to try:
I don't know if the install of a Carminat NC still works if the 9.845 is already installed, but I don't expect too much anyway.
Did use different tools and methods to extract the file that corresponds to the PNDNavigator on normal TT's but I think the Hash-test won't allow the installation.
Updated a SD backup that was provided and used the ttsystem files that was created on the SD - so I did what I could to get the correct files and to make sure it fits together.
Keep in mind that you need to extract several images to get to the file.
Just getting the stuff sorted using Windows is a pain and without a device to test pretty much useless trails anyway
To get the thing on your Carminat:
Download the archive and unpack the ttsystem to the root of your Carminat SD - not the original SD, a backup!!
I don't know what changed in the filesystem but I do know that a 9.844 SD can be copied with no problems at all.
Just the fact that the map on such a SD won't work still stands.
But I had two SD backups from a CL now and no map data was included, only the user stuff like mapsettings.cfg and the speedcams - no actual map, as I think the map is only the internal memory after installation.
