poi.dat files - do they work across 890 maps ? not for me ...
Did anybody try to use a larger POI.DAT file from a different 890 map?
With North America map this was a usual thing to do :
I used the much larger poi.dat from 855 until now (287 Mb)
and still there is no problem using that 2 years old file with North_America_2GB_890_4222 map
(the only one there is a meta for -I need both USA and Canada).
There is a new POI.DAT file 240 Mb in size in North_America_890_4224 map
(but no meta for that map). The poi.dat in the map North_America_2GB_890_4222 map is
only 144Mb.
PROBLEM :
With the North_America_2GB_890_4222 map I can't see
(that is can't search - they do not show up in menu)
any POI if I use poi.dat from North_America_890_4224 map.
Again an old poi.dat file works fine still.
Conclusion - new poi.dat files have some information in them
allowing them to be used only in the map they are linked to.
Did anyone try the same thing I try with new maps?
(not with old maps - that worked fine)
The poi.dat file is not corrupted because CRC32 checksum
is the same as in the rar file of the North_America_890_4224 map.

Don't try to mix files from different versions ( meaning don't mix files from .2222 and .2224 )
Since we only have the meta for North_America_2GB_890_4222
Use that map
Download the larger North_America_890_4222 ( no meta yet )
( You don't need the meta to access the files inside the map )
open and copy the large crpoi.dat and the poi.dat files.
Put these larger files from the large map in the 2GB map.
( above tested and works )
Or if you don't need speech/spoken address
Use the USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P_890_4238 map (we have the meta )
This map has a larger Crpoi and poi as it includes Mexico.

You can freely share poi.dat file between maps with same FORMAT:
810 (4218, 4222, 4238, 4247, 4268, 4278, 4328)
770 (4223, 4237, 4266, 4330)
730 (4217, 4224, 4234, 4235, 4236, 4261, 4331)
But don't mess files from different formats - they won't work

map FORMAT and POI>dat files
rusigor :
Thanks - just questions remain :
- how can I know which map uses which FORMAT?
- the old POI.DAT file from North_America_P_855_2934 map
works fine with the new map North_America_2GB_890_4222.
I use this old file with different maps for 2 years already
(last was the 880 map -I didn't try 885) and used navcore 8.415
before.
Now I had to change navcore to v9 -the 890.422 map requires v9.
(I use 9.170 by Mark because I prefer 2 panels and
9.430 has no SE navcore with 2 panels).
So :
- only new maps care about "new incompatible poi.dat"-right?
- new map works fine with old poi.dat
Is it that into newer poi.dat file some "key" is inserted about "map format".
And if the corresponding "key" is simply not there all works fine?

In real - every map has such format. You can read it from file mapinfo.dat - 4 bytes starting from offset 6, re-write them in reverse order (you'll see hex value startig with 00 00), convert to decimal - voila! Here you are - 810/770/730
PS If you'll try very old maps - you'll find formats like 700/720/800
PPS Almost the same happens with files cspeech.dat - can share them between same Format same release maps (as between several releases - hardly somebody tried, however I don't see any sense doing so)

We only have a couple of these maps designed for x10/x11/x12 devices.
The mapping detail will be no different to the "standard" 890 maps so it's not really worth the effort to get these working on the older devices.

Thank you for moving the post to the right place.
I have not explained well, not interested in more maps, my interest, I have TT Start25 navcore 12,035 map in SD 890.4241 have agreed to file the map Europe.pna in catches is original, Europe, amended Europe 890 simba, my question if you can access the inside of the map, like putting on the future new maps in the TomTom 10xx, 11xx 12xx, bypassing the tomtom box (without paying them) cracking the system
Best regards.

Basically the answer is no because the navcore x10/x11/x12 devices can only be accessed through MyTomTom program which is a direct link to TT servers so cannot be read/edited from your PC (unlike the usual TTHome program)
