Is OneDrive any good?
Currently I use a Seagate 300GB external drive for backing up my System files etc which I'm happy to keep using but is it worth me utilising the free 5GB cloud storage offered by OneDrive to specifically back up my "private" files etc (which I currently have backed up as a .rar on a MicroSD card)
The idea seems OK but is there any real advantage compared to using MicroSD cards etc?
Your thoughts (good or bad) would be welcome, thanksbiggerdave Reviewed by biggerdave on . Is OneDrive any good? For me I've never used One Drive
Now most of my systems have SSD
My private files are on a total other drive.
Also the system Temp folder is also on an another drive, due to there is frequent written to that folder, and that is sure not the best for an SSD drive
The SSD from this system I use most of the time is 500GB in size.
I've a Sharkoon dual dock station with which I'm able to make a 1:1 copy standalone in about a half an hour
The second SSD as spare is at a safe place.Last edited by pe1agp; 22nd February 2021 at 11:40 PM.

I also don't prefer a cloud backup.
I use a 3 TB external drive to backup my data drive (D incremental once a month and keep it in storage NOT connected to my computer.
If I did a importante update I backup sooner.
Every half year I make a backup from my system (C when the new Windows version is there.

Onedrive I haven't used it but Mega has.
Having files in the cloud has the advantage that you can access them from anywhere.
Mega for example gives you 50GB for free per account and you can open the accounts you want with different emails.

I don't think it will make much of a difference whether or not you keep your files in the cloud.
They have already managed to obtain the information that can be found there from you through a completely different way.
The only thing not to reveal anything about you is to cancel your internet connection and even then I still have my doubts.
If you have a business account that will cost a lot per month, it is certainly useful to use the cloud simply because it is very convenient to have your files everywhere but really everywhere, but hobbyists like us there I don't see any profit in this, at most an extra cost item

There have been many actresses who have stolen images from the cloud or from their smartphone, if you can take the maps from the official server, others can take their data from the cloud, think of the amazon session, internet banking, etc...
You do not know what I have come to find in the incoming folders of emule and edonkey shared by other people, even in torrents, people should be careful with access to their computers and privacy, although this is increasingly common, less considered by most people.

As long as they run in and out of the Pentagon, I don't have the impression that I will be able to stop them.

The only way to stop them is as peterhimself says "storage NOT connected to my computer".

So Dave, if you want a 1: 1 of your HHD, take it out of the system cabinet and come over here,
with the same size but rather slightly larger empty HDD. I have 2 of those standalone Sharkoon dockings
