Nuvi 265 is a very old Device. It doesn't manage folder \Map.
This serie of Devices (2xx, 3xx, 6xx, 7xx, 465T, and some others) manage:
- Up to 4 Maps in internal \Garmin folder (gmapsupp.img, gmapprom.img, gmapprom1.img, gmapoem.img)
- 1 Map in \Garmin folder on external microSD (gmapsupp.img)
- some Devices accepts a second Map in \Garmin folder on external microSD (gmapsup1.img)
- nuvis serie 2x0 (Firmware 5.10)
- nuvis serie 2xxW (Firmware 4.10)
- nuvis serie 2x5 (Firmware 7.60)
- nuvis serie 7x5 (Firmware 4.40)
- nuvi 465T (Firmware 3.70)
As a general rule, folder \Map exists is Devices having folder \.System as well

Just for clarification, if the GE card map update is used with the Garmindevice.xml and the downloaded map files include .system\GUPDATE.GCD. The GUPDATE file should not be copied to the device (2797 with modded firmware in this case) since we do not want to change the device firmware and the GUPDATE file relates to a firmware update.
Is that correct?
Thx

@floydo
Yes correct.
using clone device for updates
If the firmware version was advanced during Patching GE should not overwrite it.

@floydeo
Further clarification as to whether you mean 'patched' when you wrote 'modded firmware'. That's because nuvi 2x97/8 HWID 1517 doesn't need treatment with big-bang's Universal Firmware Patcher because its fw has no MSV protection currently. It does however have GSV protection therefore if you've modified the firmware in some other way and it won't pass checksum check you must load the modded fw either in preboot (RGN file) or by SD txt cmd (BIN files) with Ldr.bin.
Loading a later version original (unmodified) fw GCD file conventionally using GE or adding manually will result in overwriting of course, but will be ignored if the new GCD is the same or lower version of the modded version already loaded.

I'm curious why you would patch it when maps unlocked even with older versions of gimgunlock will work in unpatched HWID 1517 devices?

I'm curious too.
My grandmother always said: "if the gain is not there, the loss is obvious"
I don't know if I've translated the Italian way of saying correctly

Haha. I think "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is likely universal and has an approximate equivalent in any known language all the way back to caveman grunts.
