Garmin Nuvi 3450, I'm confused !!
Hello,
This is my first post. It's been a long time since I have updated my Nuvi 3450, so I downloaded from this forum all three parts of the City_Navigator_North_America_NT_2024 file. But once extracted, all I see is a bunch of unfamiliar files and folders !!
These are the files in my nuvi .System folder:
gmap3d.img
gmapbmap.img
gmapdem.ing
gmapprom.img
gmaptz.img
JVC, SID, SQLite, RoadsideAssist and other folders
In the past, I just needed to download and replace those files and everything was working perfectly !
Is there a sticky or tutorial on how to extract those files from City_Navigator_North_America_NT_2024 I just downloaded ??

Welcome to the forum, better to post in the thread relating to your question than create a new thread so I moved your post.
What you have downloaded is the gmap folder for use with a PC to be able to create your own custom maps.
Read this

Ok, I manage to understand how MapSource works !
With Map Tool I just selected the maps for United States only (179 maps, 3.36GB)
Send to Device, got this error, only 731MB available ! So I deleted gmapprom.img (2.8GB) from .System folder.
Send again to Device, successful ! With File Explorer, I notice there was no gmapprom.img in .System folder but a gmapsupp.img in Map folder of my Nuvi 3450.
Now I don't have enough space available for the Canada & Mexico (59 maps, 1021MB) I created with Map Tool.
What happened to the SID and JVC Folder I used to replace before when updating my Nuvi ??
What files / folders do I need in .System folder ??
I tried Garmin Express got this message, "There was an error installing the update". It wants to install 2012.20 but I have 2018.30 !Last edited by guizmo1967; 28th January 2024 at 07:46 AM.

OK you're on the right track, so your device does not have Lifetime map updates.
North America has grown beyond your internal device storage. I would normally suggest using an SD card or only selecting a smaller map set as you have done.
Change the name of the gmapsupp.img to gmapprom.img in the system folder.
MapSource does not create gmap3d.img ,JCV or SID files so until someone shares these files from their nuvi 34xx or 37xx this will work without them.Unless you are a "New" member, having used the Thanks button regularly is the quickest way to get help.

Ok, so not enough internal memory !
Can I put the United states Only (3.36GB) that I created, rename to gmapprom.img in the .System folder and the Canada & Mexico, rename to gmapsupp.img on the SD card ??
As I understand, the SD card (max 4GB) must be formatted to FAT32 and the .img file in the /Garmin folder, right ??

It is the .img file that cannot be larger than 4Gb, your device can use an SD card up to 32 GB
On an SD card the gmapsupp.img goes in a folder called map
<Location>
<Path>Map</Path>
<BaseName>gmapsupp</BaseName>
<FileExtension>img</FileExtension>
