This is the question.
Since version 4 there is some time of change in the topography, so it makes some reason for an update. This concerns not only buildings and infrastructure, also the change of glacier is very significant. You can compare the older maps in basecamp with the new and free online maps at I am not shure from witch data the new jnx-file is coming from, but for shure, the data are newer then v3 and v4 and the resolution is much better.
Then of course it makes sense to transform this jnx-File to img, to get a map for not patched devices.Last edited by Traveller66; 24th April 2022 at 04:56 PM.

Compared to the V3 and V4 maps, the topo has been updated, it can be clearly seen.
You must already have the possibility of transforming the very large JNX into an IMG file, I tried but it does not work correctly, unless you have the solution.
It will still be necessary to patch the Garmins to be able to read the IMGs, because these maps are not recognized by the Garmins if not patched. I have experienced this with my personal IMG maps.

I confirm that the SwissTopo.img maps work fine on the 66sr and on BaseCamp.

It also works fine for me with the gpsmap 66s and Basecamp.
Just to be clear: these maps are made with the geotiffs that can be downloaded from the site swiss.topo.ch, not a compilation of the jnx-file from Garmin Topo Swiss Pro v2 (even though the raster img-files contains the info/copyright related to Garmin and jnx2img).
You can make the raster img-files transparent, on your gps with a selected (switched on) map of Garmin or a map from openstreetmap, you will then also get/see the poi's and streetnames etc. from the other map (original JNX from Garmin is also transparant). But that is a personal choice.
