nuvi 2699LM update with faulty USB Port
I have a Nuvi 2699LMT device that I want to update the maps.
The problem is the USB port went bad and Garmin does not service it anymore. Even offered to send it back to them.
While it has Lifetime Maps, no computer can see the device; hence, I cannot connect to it with Garmin Express.
Next, I updated my Nuvi 3597 via Garmin Express being it also has Lifetime Maps... worked great.
I tried transferring the SD card from my Nuvi 3597 to the 2699,, but that didn't work... It complained about being unable to load map...
Next, I copied off CN North America NT 2021.20 from my Nuvi 3597. the file was gmapprom.img
I ran it against the Gimunlock0.04 tool and renamed it to gmapsupp.img. It has MD5 Hash 3824BC2F6452294E7A442CFF0954FA19 and is unlocked... The device says it is rebooting and loading maps, but then it errors the same again.
Is there any way to to update the maps on my 2699 LMT at this point? or am I hosed; since, its USB port only works to provide power?

Your nuvi 2699 Guessing HWID 1772 or 1948, would have to be patched to use unlocked maps from your other device.
The PM you did not check ?
There are a couple of options,
1.Recover your garmindevice.xml from the device using a SD card and clone your device on an SD card, then update the SD card clone with Garmin express, these maps will be unlocked officially for your device.
garmindevice-xml Recovery with SD card.rar
Make sure your device is fully charged, copy the Garmin folder and its contents to a clean FAT32 formatted SD card from the attachment, turn device off fully not stand by. Insert SD card and boot up.Once it has finished you should be able to see the garmindevice.xml on the SD card.Back up your garmindevice.xml. On a clean SD card create a folder called Garmin and place the recovered garmindevice.xml in the garmin folder.Use Garmin Express to update.
If this does not work
Your devices ID are also available in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices 10 digit number naming the folder starting with 3,I can make up a garmindevice.xml with it so you can clone your device.BUT DO NOT share this number publicly send me a PM.
2.Patch your device to use Unlocked maps.
3. Repair USB portLast edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 20th September 2020 at 10:45 AM.

Hi dear!
First of all there are 2 models of Nuvì 2699, the standard one (HWID: 1772) and C4 model (HWID: 1948).
You have to check in your GarminDevice.xml the correct HWID ().
Both models require a Patch to Firmware in order to read Unlocked Maps.
In Post I've prepared SD Package with Patched Firmware for both models.
If, instead, you want simply transfer file GarminDevice.xml from internal memory to SD, read Post
Once you have GarminDevice.xml of your Device copy it in \Garmin folder of an empty microSD (8 GB should be the best)
Insert microSD into PC slot and run Garmin Express, The device will be recognized and the Update will begin.
When update finishes you must correct some files and folder names, if you want to hold new Maps on microSD
I will explain you later, when update finished

None of this is going to work because the Garmin USB port does not work, and I cannot pull off GarminDevice.xml for example from internal memory right?
Without any access to internal storage, can this upgrade be performed?

Both FireFox58 and I read your post & offered a solution, you are not the first with a USB port problem, the method to recover your garmindevice.xml from the internal storage uses the SD card.

I need to buy a permanent memory card for this device, too...
I borrowed the one out of my other GPS Unit.
Which MicroSDHC card do you recommend? Also it was only partially successful.
These are the files the Garmin Express utility installed on the SD Micro Card (I cop
I looked at my Other Device, a Nuvi 3587LM It shows these files in the Garmin Folder on the MicroSD
I manipulated the Nuvi2699 files to be the Nuvi2699 versions ordered like the working Nuvi3587LM and found if I have the gmapprom.img, gmapprom.unl, and the gmapprom.gma files that Garmin Express created in the System folder on the MicroSD card... and relocate them to the Garmin Folder on the MicroSD card, it loads the Maps...
but then I have this:
Is there a way to update that other map, too?Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 20th September 2020 at 10:43 AM.
