    Default Garmin 66ST

I've had my 66ST for a few years now and the battery status indicator has never been very accurate. Recently after using it for a few hours, the low battery indicator tells me that the batteries are low. I want to replace the battery pack. Even though I can buy the Garmin battery pack, I'd like to buy 2 AA batteries of very good quality. The batteries that came with the GPS are 2000mAh 4.8Wh 2.4v. Is the 4.8Wh meaning 4.8 watt hours? What does this mean as far as a function of the battery. Also, when shopping for new batteries, can I go to a higher mAh rating? I assume that the higher rating would mean longer battery usage. And lastly, when they say its 2.4 volts, I assume that his two 1.2 volt batteries together correct?

I also understand the issue with the button under the batteries that mush be depressed to allow the batteries to be charges while in the gps.

First you should read your manual:

You want good battery life put it in "Expedition Mode"

    • Expedition Mode places the GPSMAP 66sr into a low power state and can extend battery life up to 21 days.
    • Only GPS (L1) satellites are used while Expedition Mode is active (Multi-GNSS and Multi-Band are disabled).
    • The

next to the power button will flash green once every 5 seconds to indicate Expedition Mode is active.
    • Tracklog recordings are updated at a variable rate based on device movement and activity while in Expedition Mode.
    • All Tracklog

settings are disabled while recording in Expedition Mode.
    • Choose the desired Expedition Mode behavior:

      • Prompted (You will be prompted to enter Expedition Mode when powering the GPSMAP 66sr off)
      • Auto (After 2 minutes of inactivity, the GPSMAP 66sr will enter Expedition Mode automatically)
      • Never (Expedition Mode is disabled)

Turn down the screen back light. (I have my GPSMAP 66 completely off.)
No problem seeing the screen in this mode (with very bright sun light I find a shady spot to look at the screen.)
In the woods it is always dark enough anyway to see the screen.

Next turn screen time down to it's lowest (I have it set to 30 sec.)
    Turn off Bluetooth and WIFI

You can use 2450 Ni-MH batteries (make sure you set the 66 to the correct type of batteries too.)

All this info is in the manual.

Also set it for the type of way you are using it. (I have mine set for "
    geocaching")

With my 2450 Ni-MH batteries with out "Expedition Mode" I get 5 to 6 days on these batteries.

Plus I always kept a 2 extra 2450 Ni-MH batteries in my backpack just in case I have low battery info on the screen.....

I never charge the batteries inside of the GPSMAP 66 Take them out and use a charger with a wall charger the night before I go out hiking if they need charging.

That why keeping 2 extra batteries is handy..

    Always ready to go.....
