Yes I do need many custom POIs for camping supermarkets gas etc... If I may ask ? What are your top 3 sites for POis
Please check out your device as I said above the latest maps have the latest POI's embedded in them ,including fuel, Shopping etc. There are additional POI's for devices designed for RV's and their specific needs, Dump stations etc. I only rely on POI's from Garmin devices like these examples
2023.10 (1.66 GB)
2023.10 (1.21 GB)
2023.10 (57.2 MB)

Hi , I have recently added the Europe map to my Nuvi 2597 on a SD card for my vacation to Europe.
I'm now experimenting adding different POIs to my SD card.
I found some.gpi files that i like and have added it in my Garmin folder in a POI folder I created
That seems to work. I see the various files and when I remove the SD card they are not there, which is what I expect.
What i don't understand is even if i remove some or all .gpi files I had put, the data is always there when i put in the SD card ??
If I put a certain folders twice, both appear even though its the same thing.
I presume my nuvi 2597 makes a copy somewhere even thought i removed all the .gpi files that I added ?
How can I remove those gpi files or clear them ?

I just tried removing all my .GPIs on my SD card and erase the current.gpx but still when i go to categories / Custom POIs all my pois are still there and the duplicates as wel ???
My appologies, I thought it was the right thing to do, to create a new post since its the same nuvi 2597 burt a different problem but It's ok with me i will continue here ;-)
I'm not in Europe yet thats why I'm trying to organise my POIs before i leave so that I will be able to use those POIs properly.
I did more testing yesterday : i also removed all .gpi files from the Nuvi 2597 itself but same results, i always see my POIs in : Categories / Custom POIs they just accumulate, I can't seem to erase them ...

I've done more testing, i can add and remove POIs to the Garmin NUVI itself no problem thru POILOADER
But NOT on my SD card even after removing all the GPIs everywhere if the card is in the Nuvi all the different POIs are all there and just accumulate but cannot be erased.
I tried removing my POis on the SD card thru the POI loader even though the POIs were not installed with the POI (they were transfered directly from my computer) but it gave an error
My only conclusion so far is the Nuvi is somehow creating a backup copy of all POIs cumulatively but I have no idea in what form or how to remove it.
I'm running out of ideas any guidance would be appreciated
If this can help anybody and save you time & headaches ;-)
Problem : I have two working nuvis 2597 one was detected by Windows 10 and the other nuvi was not detected
for some wierd reason so I could not update the second nuvi ...
Long story short, after much research and test, I figured out the problem :
It's some type of Windows 10 driver bug : It works for one nuvi but not the other !
The Solution : Go to Control panel/device manager/Disk drives/ then look for your garmin nuvi.
Mine was labeled "Garmin nuvi System USB Device"
Right click / update driver
Click on Browse my computer for drivers
Select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer option.
Choose your device from the list. In this case, we chose "Disk Drive"
Nake sure compatible device is checked
Select Hard Drive Device and click Next to install it.It re-installed and
Voila ! This solved my problem, I can now see and update my second nuvi 2957

Hello dear, I think you are fighting against the Windmills.
Every time you insert a microSD with .GPI files inside, ALL POIs are COPIED/MERGED in internal memory (POI.GPI file) and even if you remove the SD the POIs remain present.
Garmin works like this.
To remove the POIs you have to delete any .GPI files (usually in the \Poi or \Garmin\Poi folders) in the internal memory, there is no other way.
To better understand, and better organize your POIs, I recommend my Application, created specifically for POI Management
Hi Firefox ! Thanks for the assist :-)
The problem still remaines, I had remove EVERY single .GPI files in the nuvi AND on the SD.
I even erased both current.gpx and still ALL the POIs are present when the SD is inserted.
It is somehow backedup on the SD and all the cumulative POIs are always there as soon as i insert my SD.
I even tried it on my second nuvi and same thing ,all the cumulative POIs appear.
I tried loading a different POI then erasing it and the NEW POI also appears afterwards.
i looked at every file on the SD for todays date to see if any files were modified but I could not see anything ... It almost like a hidden backup file ???
