Same map different typ files possible?
G'day All,
I'm wanting to use 2 copies of the same map on the same Garmin device (GPSMAP 276CX) with each copy using a different .typ file.
I want to be able to switch between them when desired to have elements on the map displayed as different colours, thicknesses etc. as per the .typ file.
Putting 2 copies of the map with different .typ files on the device doesn't work as it only shows one of them in the 'Configure Maps' settings.
I did manage to get them both recognised and shown in Configure Maps as separate maps by changing the Mapset Name and Map ID's of one of the copies.
This mostly works as I can switch between them ok, except for one issue I can't figure out, the copy I changed will not use it's own .typ file, but instead it's appearance suggests it uses the same .typ file as the original, everything is the same and does not reflect the differences between .typ files as I believe it should.
If I remove one of the copies from the 276 the remaining one works fine and the .typ works as expected.
Swap them around so the other copy is on there by itself and it also works correctly, showing correct colouring as per the .typ file.
But put them both on there at the same time and it doesn't work as desired, and both copies appear to use the same .typ file again.
I also tried changing the FID, as well as the Mapset Name and Map ID's for one of the copies.
The colours etc. it used after I did this I have no idea where it got them from, as they appeared completely different to either copy's .typ file should have displayed them.
The maps used are the free of Australia, total of 366 tiles combined into a single .img file.
For each change I split them with GMapTool and joined again making the desired changes while joining.
I also tried ensuring the .typ files were named differently from each other in each copy.
I have also tried these copies on a Montana 610 and a Montana 700, same results, on the devices individually they work fine, put a copy on and they do not.
I'm thinking I'm missing something, but what that might be I have no idea.
I guess it also might not be possible, though I hope that's not the case.

Each of the .img must have a unique number. Otherwise they will be in conflict in the gps.
The maps will work in basecamp, but not in the gps.
It is possible to change the ID of each of the 366 .img of one of the maps. GPSMapedit, can do it. Very long.
Before, you can use the Javawa GMTK tool to check the conflicts of your two maps in Basecamp.
Perhaps there is a better tool to change the ID of img?

Yes I believe that unique number is the Map ID each tile has, I changed them with GMapTool which only took a few seconds to change the whole lot.
Changed them so they're completely different to the other copy's Map ID's.
Will try Javawa at the first opportunity and see what it says.

I did the test with your 366 .img. By changing all the map id with Gmaptool, and with 2 different Type, both maps work well, at the same time in my Montana 700.

Interesting, thanks for that.
Wonder why it won't work correctly when I do it, well it does except for the .typ being ignored on one of them.
I changed the Map ID's with the settings Absolute and the numbering starting at 10000001.
How did you set/number yours?
Did you only change one copy's ID's or both?
Did you split then join or just use the Change tab in GMapTool?

With Gmaptool, i changed one copy's ID,s.
Change map ID= Abosolute;9990001;change all
And Splite= Set Mapset; Fid **** PID 1; Splite all
Install in Basecamp
Modify TYP with JavawaGMTK 4.1 (see in Option)
Install map direct on MicroSD, without GPS (select all .img) with BaseCamp
Rename your gmapsupp
Your original .img (366)
With Gmaptool
Splite= Set Mapset; Fid **** PID 1; Splite all
Install in Basecamp
Modify TYP with JavawaGMTK 4.1 (see in Option)
Install map direct on MicroSD, without GPS (select all .img) with BaseCamp
Rename your gmapsupp
