Garmin Nüvi 350
Hi all,
I have a Garmin Nüvi 350 with software version 6.20. Is it possible to downgrade to an earlier version of the software version?
If yes is there an howto for on this forum?
The reason for the downgrade is that the nuvi 350 has a Fleet management interface mode and in this mode the nuvi 350 is able to accept waypoint infomation from an external source.
This is done together with a Gtrans cable.
To my knowledge the nuvi 350 is going into this mode by powering the nuvi from the cradle and connect the gtrans cable. I think and suspect that it has something to do with the software version, because I have read that after a certain version this does not work anymore....??

I used to use a gtrans cable between a Kenwood D710 and Nuvi 350 with software version 6.20 without any problem. The gtrans cable connects to the usb port on the side and the unit MUST be powered through the cradle adapter

Hi Ranond,
Tks for your reply, I did everything you described but I didn't see anything popup on the map or in the favorites. Also I have no clue how the extra menu items look like when the 350 goes into FMI mode.....

It most likely will depend on the cable you are using. I have never seen any extra FMI menus on my unit but the cable is 3rd party not original Garmin and is only supposed to interface the radio to the GPS to pass NMEA packets. It does not enable despatch mode.

Hi Ronand,
Are we speaking about the Gtrans cable from Argent data systems? Underneeth is the cable that I ordered, is this the cable that you also used to use? If so then ther should be a biderectional comms on the GPS port because the comport is on the backside of the headunit...I am confused....
Thanks for your support and help in this....

That cable will work fine for APRS with a radio but will not enable any FMI modes as it is not the Garmin cable (I don't think it has been available from Garmin for many years). I stopped using mine a few years ago as it was too many cables in the car. I fitted a GPS receiver in the head of my D710 and that worked perfectly. I don't need to log any tracks and even if I needed them it is available on aprs.fi

Hi Ronand,
I did that to my D710 also but it was "looking" forward instead of up, so it took time to get a fix, so I undid the mod and worked a while with a gps mouse on the dash. after a period of time I was tired of chasing the gps mouse on the dash so I sold the D710 and bought a D710ge. now I am experimenting with the nüvi 350 but as of yet no joy. Will take a second look at the different settings of the d710ge again
