Nuvi 2589 help.
Hi
I have recently bought a Nuvi 2589LMT. I understand that it will require unlocking the unit to allow me to use Australian maps.
Q.Which JCV file should I use with the latest (2021.30) maps??

Check your HWID in the garmindevice.xml
<PartNumber>006-B1758-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>950</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>nüvi 2589</Description>
Your device uses junction view
Q.If you bought this LMT device in Australia does it not have Lifetime map updates already for Australia & New Zealand via Garmin Express ?Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 21st December 2020 at 12:52 PM.

No it was purchased in the USA. So it currently has the North American maps installed. Therefore I need to unlock the unit to put Australia NZ maps on it. Correct?
Also, can I install the AUS/NZ maps into the system folder or do they have to go onto an sd card?
I haven't actually received the GPS yet so I will check Re "Check your HWID in the garmindevice.xml" once I get it.
Is it possible for you to supply an updated .gcm file once I find out the HWID info?

Yes
The AU/NZ maps are relatively small, so may fit in the internal storage, but if any file gets corrupted during installation you will have to jump though hoops to get it working again. An SD card can just be removed and file deleted enabling you to start again, so my recommendation.
Download & extract to FAT32 formatted SD card.
The SQLite file will works better if you copy it to the .system/SQLite folder on the device
Patched .gcd files are not easy to install so I recommend using the the correct simpler available once we know what your HWID is.Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 22nd December 2020 at 09:10 AM.

OK so Ive now got the device to read my AUS/NZ map thanks. However, when I turn it on I still get the "Cannot unlock Maps" message.
Q. Is it possible to remove this message?

So you only have on your SD card ?
If you remove the SD card does the message still pop up ?
Use ,Extract gimgunlock-0.04.exe to your desktop & drag D5084210A.img & gmapsupp.img onto gimgunlock-0.04.exe iconLast edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 8th January 2021 at 07:20 AM.
