Hi
I tried to update my Garmin 1490t and the device was not recognized:
Processing file C:\Backup\Download\Garmin\firmware\GUPDATE.GCD
Firmware version as specified in GCD file: 6.30 for nuvi 13xx and 14xx.
Firmware name: Firmware version 6.30 for nuvi 13xx and 14xx.
Applying rule set MSV... No matches.
Applying rule set GVS... No matches.
Any ideas how i can fix this? Thanks.

Just figured out the problem. Previous I was unpacking the RAR file with the Manjaro Archiving tool. I just booted into Windows and used 7-zip and the small version of the map is now showing on my GPS. So problem solved.

Actually you never had a firmware problem, because as said above your 1490's firmware doesn't need patching at all and indeed wasn't patched. It shows in your quote it doesn't have either MSV or GVS in it.

I have a Drive 40. Complained about a corrupted map when I added an unlocked img on sdcard/Garmin. Patched the firmware according to instructions (patcher, rgn_tool, updater). No errors reported.
IMP Patcher (v1.1) identified correct model, but reported HWID of 0 ?
I only used the HWID to name the rgn file, correct ?
Now device is not complaining about corrupted map. But map is not shown under myMaps. Is copying the img to the sdcard sufficient?
Thanks for any help.

That's not a concern and is normal with many modern devices. RGN_Tool will also show HWID '0'. Other tools such as gfw.exe can show the HWID but as hexadecimal. For Drive/Drivesmart 40-50 series HWID 2267 that's 08DB in hex.
Yes, fail-safe naming is 226701000570.RGN for V5.70 firmware.
It depends on naming and placement in the card. Your device should recognize <any_name>.img in Garmin root folder but if it's not recognized change the name to 'gmapsupp.img'. Or you can make another root folder named Map and use <any_name>.img in there too. The *.img must be correctly unlocked of course or you'll see "Can't Unlock Maps" message.

I used 2267.RGN as file name. I double-checked the sd this monrning. Filesize was 0. I copied unlocked card in SD/Garmin/ again. It works! Ready for vacation now ...

Brrrr! Use of anything other than the 'fail-safe' naming convention is potentially dangerous. That's this: "XXXX01000xxx.rgn". It is safe because Updater.exe will then first query the device, checking that the HWID of the firmware used (XXXX) does match that of the device itself. If they don't match then Updater.exe will report "No updates available for this device" and not flash. Even if just one of the zeros is removed from the file name the flash will be forced so if an inappropriate firmware has been used it will maybe hard-brick the device. The correctness of "xxx" for firmware version is not so crucial but still should be accurate and must be 3 plain numerals e.g. V5.70 is written "570".
